ESSENTIAL OILS ACNE TREATMENT

There are many acne treatment remedies on the market today. For those who wish to avoid chemicals and unnecessary additives altogether in their acne treatment, there are alternatives that are not only medically effective, but also cost effective choices. One natural approach that is easy to use is essential oils acne treatment.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is highly effective at treating a wide variety of skin conditions. It is a general purpose cleaner for the skin, and it can be used effectively to treat other skin irritations, rashes, warts, fungal infections and dandruff. Tea tree oil is an excellent choice for treating acne because of its antibacterial properties. It works fast to clear up the skin, and provides soothing relief at the same time.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is popular and is most often associated with improved relaxation and mood. It is a common ingredient in bath and body products because of its noted soothing properties. Lavender is also a strong antibacterial agent and can be used effectively as a preventative essential oils acne treatment. It reduces redness and helps to prevent acne breakouts from occurring. Lavender oil is strong and is generally diluted before applying to the skin.

Bergamot Oil

Bergamot is not as well-known as some of the other essential oils, but it can be quite helpful in treating acne conditions. It has an invigorating fragrance and can be used in combination with other oils to create an effective treatment blend. Bergamot does well in treating existing blemishes on the skin as it has good drying properties. Its antibacterial strength is significant and the oil is not generally used full strength.

Application of Essential Oils

These are just a few of the essential oils that can be used effectively as acne treatment. Because of their potency, many oils such as these should be diluted with water or mixed with a carrier oil like jojoba or grapeseed oil. It is important to read the instructions with the product to determine if it can be used full strength or not. Whether used full strength, diluted or with a carrier oil, essential oils can be applied topically to clean skin to treat acne.

Considerations

Choosing essential oils that work best with certain skin types, particularly those that are oily or dry, is important when beginning a treatment regimen. As a general rule, sensitive skin types should plan to dilute essential oils to reduce the strength of application and lesson any possible sensitivity reactions. Testing an area on the skin to see how the oil is tolerated is a good idea. It might be necessary to try different essential oils to find the one that works best to treat individual acne conditions.

Essential oils can be contraindicated during pregnancy. When using essential oils acne treatment, if the skin becomes red or irritated the product should be discontinued. Even though essential oils are natural substances, they are very powerful substances. Regular use of essential oils for treating identified skin conditions or otherwise should be under the supervision of a licensed homeopathic professional.
